Social Security and Welfare Reform

"I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents..." --James Madison

Social security, Medicare, and Medicaid make up 51% of the federal budget and are bankrupt. There is no "trust fund" and currently, the government is borrowing money to satisfy existing obligations.

The Constitution does not provide for entitlements of any kind. This does not mean we haven't been addicted to them since the beginning of our founding. If we are to return to our heritage of individual responsibility and community support, we must work towards reducing and eliminating both corporate and social entitlements. The federal government has created dependent children out of capable adults over the decades. If we aren't careful, we'll be like Russia, Cuba, and China depending on the federal government for every aspect of our lives. Social security must be reformed so that young workers have more freedom over their retirement savings.
